Project Details

The client wanted to convert the monthly editions of its magazine into XML feeds for multi-channel publishing and conversion into an online magazine app together with ensuring a better UI/UX experience for its readers.

We followed our proprietary XML-First Workflow to convert the PDF files into XML format.

Page Layout and Flow

Since this magazine included lots of pictures, captions, headers, and content bodies of varying sizes, all in different parts of the page, and with articles starting and ending mid page. Our team of graphic designers intelligently mapped out each article and associated graphics, tag lines, etc., on the PDF pages to individual articles in a feed.

We also made sure that we created a precise replica of the table of contents, individual features, the masthead as well as the cover spine of the magazine, together with conceptualizing and creating a visually-appealing interface for the mobile app.

Image Editing and Enhancement

Image retouching to adjust contrast, increase/ decrease brightness, remove spots, change/ remove background, etc., to make the images attractive.

Copyediting and Proofreading

Every textual content was minutely scrutinised to improve the quality and enhance the language of the magazine. This was done according to the requirements of the client as the changes had to be aligned with the larger vision of the magazine and the sentiment of the author and the readers. Our copy editing experts worked to increase the readability of the content while ensuring the author’s style of writing remained intact. This included going through headings, subheadings, and the in-between paragraphs as well.
Once the copy editing part was closed, the project was then handed over to proofreaders. Our team of experienced proofreaders scans through the entire content to fix spelling errors, punctuation errors, incorrect alignment or spacing, etc. They ensured that the pages were numbered correctly, the paragraph sequence is appropriate along with proper indexing.

Conversion & Optimization

Once we ingested, indexed, normalized, and tagged all existing content, we transformed and optimized the XML feeds in tune with the requirements of both the publisher and retailers such as Time, Google, Kobo, etc. and other content distribution platforms, maintaining the accuracy and search performance of content.

The Outcome: The client received superior quality digital files complete with appealing graphics, meticulously replicated page views, and precisely re-formatted article assets designed in a responsive layout to fit the screens of any reading devices/applications, together with a mobile app.
